Governor Tomblin Announces Growing Healthy Communities Grants

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced awards for the first phase of eight projects totaling $100,000 in funding from the Growing Healthy Communities grant program.

"I applaud the work of leaders in these communities who are taking steps to make life healthier and more enjoyable for those who call their neighborhoods home," Gov. Tomblin said. "I'm grateful for the continued partnership among the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, and the West Virginia Development Office for making this grant program, and the project it supports, possible."

Funding from the Growing Healthy Communities program is administered by the West Virginia Development Office, and funding is provided by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The program provides competitive grants for West Virginia Main Street and ON TRAC communities for activities that increase community health and wellness, while also providing opportunities for downtown revitalization and development.
