Issue Position: Fiscal Reform

Issue Position

The consecutive years of budget deficits, short-term fixes and poor fiscal policies in state government must end. Scott believes critical services can be funded without doing long-term damage to the state's economy or over-burdening our citizens. Louisiana needs more people paying fewer taxes, instead of fewer people paying more taxes.

To accomplish this goal, Scott will call the legislature into session to enact fiscal reform immediately after taking office. Louisiana cannot afford to continue to pass a state budget without addressing these serious fiscal problems.

As Governor, Scott Angelle will:

* Reform the state's tax code to be fair, efficient and competitive with other states, reducing the need for numerous exemptions and credits that have wreaked havoc on the state budget;
* Consider the elimination of tax exemptions and credits that fail a cost-benefit analysis and do not grow the economy, create jobs, and bring opportunity to families;
* Examine all areas of state funding to streamline services, cut waste and create the most efficient and effective state government in the country;
* Open up restricted funds that force repetitive budget cuts on higher education and health care, allowing for a true prioritization of state spending for the first time in decades;
* Reform the capital outlay process to prioritize major projects of value across the state, particularly roads and bridges;
* Make our state more attractive to business by lowering and flattening the corporate income tax rate; and
* Reform our state's sales tax collection process.
