House Passes Legislation to Block Iran Nuclear Agreement

Statement

On Thursday, September 10, 2015 and Friday, September 11, 2015, the United States House of Representatives considered three pieces of legislation related to the Iran Nuclear Agreement.

On Thursday, the House passed H. Res. 411, with Congressman David G. Valadao's (CA-21) support, asserting that Congress had not yet received the Iran Nuclear Agreement in its entirely, and thus, the 60 day Congressional review period has yet to begin.

Today, Friday, September 11, 2015, the House considered H.R. 3461, a measure to formally approve the Iran Deal. Congressman Valadao voted against the Nuclear Agreement and the bill failed in the House by a margin of 162 - 269.

The House also considered legislation to prevent President Obama from carrying out key provisions of the Iran Deal that waive sanctions currently levied against Iran for its nuclear activities until January 21, 2017. With Congressman Valadao's support, the House passed H.R. 3460 by a margin of 247 - 186.

Following the vote, Congressman Valadao stated,"My number one priority is the safety of the American people -- something the current Iran Nuclear Agreement does not guarantee."He continued, "Not only should we stop this agreement, we must not reward the Iranian regime for their dangerous nuclear pursuits. Lifting sanctions would only encourage Iran to continue engaging in illicit activities that put the entire world in danger."

Despite actions in the House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate filibustered legislation to block a vote on the agreement. In doing so, protected this dangerously flawed agreement.

"This issue is far too important to let partisan politics interfere,"said Rep. Valadao."We must do absolutely everything in our power to stop this agreement.
