Jonathan Elkind Confirmed as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs

Jonathan Elkind was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 5, 2015 as the Department of Energy's Assistant Secretary for International Affairs.

"Jonathan brings a wealth of experience in international energy issues to the Department," said Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. "I thank the Senate for confirming Assistant Secretary Elkind and look forward to continuing my work with him in support of the nation's global energy agenda."

As Assistant Secretary, Mr. Elkind will oversee the Department's extensive international engagements and provide critical support to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary in advancing international bilateral and multilateral energy dialogues and collaborations.

Before becoming Assistant Secretary, Mr. Elkind was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Policy and International Affairs at the Department--a position he has held since 2009. Previously, he worked as a Principal with Eastlink Consulting, LLC. From 2006 to 2009, Mr. Elkind served as a Non-Resident Senior Fellow with The Brookings Institution.

Mr. Elkind served in several capacities at the White House from 1996 to 2001 including: Director of Russian, Ukranian, and Eurasian Affairs for the National Security Council and Special Advisor for International Affairs within the Office of the Vice President. He also held roles at the Department of Energy from 1993 to 1996 and at the Council on Environmental Quality from 1989 to 1993. Mr. Elkind received an A.B. from the University of Michigan, an M.A. from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
