Issue Position: NJ Property Taxes

Issues: Taxes

NJ property taxes are now the highest in the USA.

New Jersey property taxes are unbalanced and unfair. Our Jersey ho. me owners support all the towns and schools of our state, giving them a larger tax burden than any other category of tax payer. It's just wrong. And it's resulted in good people having to leave our state.

But whenever people have stepped forward to fix this problem they've usually been accused of raising taxes. In order to balance an unfair situation, and widen the tax burden, change has to happen. I think most homeowners would gladly pay for 1 penny more for a beer if it would shave 20% off their property tax bill. And there are other good ideas for raising revenue as well. But the Assembly needs brave members willing to put them forward.

How about stopping the bleeding, as a first step. Ex NJ has over 600 school superintendents presiding over just 2,500 schools! If we organized our schools by county we'd need just 21 superintendents, at a statewide savings of about $100,000,000.00 a year. Every school would still have a principal and each town a Board of Education. But the tax savings would be significant. (This change can be done through attrition and reassignment to avoid sudden job losses.)

Or how about instituting a small tax on the very large amount of money that is sent over seas where it benefits people of other nations? Currently, that outflow of funds from NJ is untaxed - yet the money was earned here, where taxpayers built the roads, installed lights, and offer residents libraries, schools, parks, and other public services.

I have the courage and creativity to put forth new ideas. Based on their proven performance, my opponents,do not.
