Capito Supports Passage of Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Date: June 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) released the following statement about the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the Senate on a 71-25 vote today:

"Determining our nation's defense spending priorities is one of Congress' primary responsibilities, and a responsibility that should be taken seriously, especially when it comes to providing for our military. I could not go home today without clearly showing my support and respect for our military men and women, and I am pleased that an overwhelming and bipartisan majority of the Senate did the same.

"This defense authorization bill includes several reforms that will streamline our military operations to modernize and prepare our troops for developing threats. We must equip our troops with the tools they need to successfully complete their missions and continue to be the strongest in the world.

"After an open debate on the Senate floor, I was pleased to put my support behind America's troops, including more than 6,000 members of the West Virginia National Guard, the thousands of West Virginians currently serving on active duty around the globe, and the veterans who call the Mountain State home."
