Barletta Statement on U.N. Security Council Vote on Iran Deal

Statement

Date: July 20, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Lou Barletta, PA-11, today released a statement regarding the vote by the United Nations Security Council to approve the president's proposed nuclear arms deal with Iran. The plan was presented to the U.N. prior to the completion of the mandatory review by Congress.

Barletta's statement is as follows:

"Just 24 hours after submitting the Iran deal to the U.S. Congress, the Obama Administration has permitted the U.N. Security Council to vote to approve the same plan. By doing so, the president has allowed 14 other nations, including Russia and China, to pass judgment on the deal before the people of the United States have had their say, through their elected representatives. This is a bad deal, poorly negotiated, and flawed from the start. And now it has been rubber-stamped by foreign nations, many of whom do not have the United States' best interests at heart. The American people deserve a thorough review of the proposal, which is what I trust Congress will do in the coming weeks."
