2010 may have just begun, but primary elections are already under way. In Illinois, we are tracking all the candidates for U.S. Congress, Governor, State Senate, and State House. The U.S. Senate seat is open, as Senator Roland Burris will not be running for reelection.
Florida will also be having a primary on Tuesday, with candidates vying for the U.S. House seat vacated by Representative Robert Wexler
On January 19th, Massachusetts held a special election to fill the Senate seat formerly held by Senator Ted Kennedy, and temporarily held by Senator Paul Kirk.
Republican party candidate, State Senator Scott Brown, beat out the Democratic party candidate, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and the Liberty party candidate, Joe Kennedy, with an estimated 52% of the vote.
The U.S. Senate voted on their version of the health care bill, HR 3590, on December 24, 2009. The bill passed 60-39. This bill differs from the House bill, HR 3962, in several ways, most notably the absence of a public health insurance option. We have also posted several votes on amendments to this bill: S Amdt 2791, which requires insurers to cover specific preventive services, S Amdt 2962, which prohibits federal funding for any abortion services covered by the bill, S Amdt 2793, which authorizes the importation of prescription drugs, and S Amdt 3726, which is Sen. Reid's "Manager's Amendments" to the bill.
