What is the Political Courage Test?

Missouri Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
It is the primary duty of government to protect our citizens. If babies and women are being harmed, it is appropriate for them to be protected, especially since our Constitution prevents our citizens from being deprived of life without due process. We should never pretend it doesn?t matter while innocent people are being killed. Normally I am an advocate for fewer laws, but when it comes to harming the unborn, we need laws to make sure everyone has access to justice.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
In order to balance the budget, I would support eliminating all the unconstitutional spending. Hundreds of millions of our Federal tax dollars are literally stolen or wasted every year. Rooting out waste, fraud and abuse was something I very adept at as a State Representative and a skill I will bring to Washington. The Federal deficit is a serious problem and we must reduce wasteful spending to bring it under control. We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Free Markets built our nation. Economic freedom is the best route to economic prosperity. The best way to create jobs is by giving people the freedom to be productive and prosperous, which means getting government out of the way. The Congress has made so many bureaucratic hindrances, it's time to bring our Country back to reality. The Congress has the power to remove all the unconstitutional bureaucracies that are creating all of these regulations that hamper business and job growth is staggering.
No Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
There are plenty of people in Missouri who are smart enough to know how to educate a child without us needing the additional manipulation of Washington DC bureaucrats. I have always supported educational choice for parents whether that is through private, parochial or home schooling them. I strongly oppose Common Core. The Department of Education should be abolished and public education left to the individual states and local school boards.
Yes Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
No Do you support funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
No Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We have lost too many jobs to Mexico and have seen our manufacturing industries gutted. The loss of manufacturing capability should be considered a matter of long-term national security. We need to keep American jobs at home by making it easier for companies to survive here rather than parking their profits in off-shore accounts. We also need to rethink surrendering our national sovereignty to international trade courts. Climate change hype is designed to reduce our prosperity by placing hurdles and handcuffs on our businesses while businesses in other countries jockey ahead with no regulations.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
The 2nd Amendment is one of our most important freedoms, our guarantee that there shall be no infringement on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. I am a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment. I will oppose any government registry or restrictions on the sale or manufacture of firearms and ammunition.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Healthcare belongs to the people, not the government. Nowhere does the U. S. Constitution grant power to the Federal Government to provide, dispense or regulate healthcare or health insurance. Therefore, the "Affordable Care Act" (AKA Obamacare) and all other federal regulation of the healthcare industry is unconstitutional, illegal and should be declared null and void. The only true solution that will provide affordable healthcare is freedom. That means we need to get government out of the equation completely. I would vote against any spending bill that provides funds to implement the "Affordable Care Act".
Yes Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
The President and Congress have both failed to secure our nation's borders. As a member of Congress I would push immediately to: 1. Do whatever is necessary to secure our borders. 2. Track those who overstay their visas. 3. End Obama's illegal amnesty executive order. 4. Illegal aliens should be ineligible for citizenship or work visas until they have gone home and come back the right way.
No Do you support same-sex marriage?
Marriage is defined as a commitment between a man and a woman for life. As the executive director of the Center for Marriage Policy, I have been working to try to strengthen the institution of marriage. High divorce rates have undermined the economic strength of the middle-class and made it more difficult to raise families out of poverty. We need to strengthen, not weaken, the traditional institution of marriage. I will work to strike bad public policies from our lawbooks that have incentivized divorce and encouraged out-of-wedlock childbearing.
Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
The Constitution established a federal government to Provide for the Common Defense, not to provide global policemen for the United Nations. Protecting our Country is one of the foundational functions of our Government, yet terrorism is on the increase. Crippling cuts to our Nation's military hurt our ability to retain the technological dominance we have had over our Nation's enemies in the past. I will support the research and development of new weapon systems and better strategies that will focus on protecting our own Country, not sending more of our military resources to other countries.
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
It's their money. They earned it. Let the wage earner have the autonomy to self-direct. Freedom to determine one's destiny and personal responsibility is good.

We need to get the E.P.A. and B.L.M. off the backs of America's food producers. Agriculture forms the backbone of Missouri's economy and is part of our rich heritage. I will vote to protect the interests of the family farm and not sell out to foreign interests. As a State Representative, I was honored to have earned the "Friend of Agriculture Award" from the Missouri Farm Bureau.
I pledge to work to defund, dismantle and eliminate the I.R.S. Hundreds of millions of our Federal tax dollars are literally stolen or wasted every year. Rooting out waste, fraud and abuse was something I was very adept at as a State Representative and a skill I would like to bring to Washington. It is shameful the way Congress and the President have allowed our nation?s veterans to be left to suffer and die in understaffed VA Hospitals, left waiting for appointments or care for months on end. Cynthia Davis is committed to reforming the VA and showing our nation?s veterans the respect they have earned. We need to reform our budget priorities to reflect our commitments we made to our military when they signed up to protect and defend our Country.
