What is the Political Courage Test?

Florida Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Unknown Position Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I believe that this issue has already been decided by the Supreme Court. Morality should be the domain or family and religion, not legislation.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
We need a top to bottom audit of where we are spending and why. Then, decide on spending as logically as possible. Some line items are necessary, some should be eliminated and others can be put on hold until our debt is under control.
Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Campaign Finance needs to be reformed, but I do not yet have a complete picture on how it needs to be done. I believe the current system heavily favors the incumbent/career politician and I believe much could be accomplished with term limits.
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
I could support mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment for non-violent drug offenders.
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Although I believe true job creation can only be counted in the private sector, I think proper use on public/private partnerships can promote economic growth.
No Do you generally support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Education should be the domain of Individual States
Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Unknown Position Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Unknown Position Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
I believe the US should continue to strive for energy independence and I would be interested in any plans to expand our manufacturing of energy, but would have to make any decision in relation to a specific plan not as a blanket statement.
Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I live in Florida. I believe that the climate is changing, but I cannot answer to the exact cause or how/if we can do anything about it. Regardless, I grew up on the beaches and know we need to do our best as humans to be responsible and control our impact on the natural world.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I support Free Market Insurance tied to the Individual that carries across State Lines. I do believe pre-existing conditions should be covered; the business of Health Insurance comes with sick people.
Unknown Position Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
This, I would have to give more thought to and would prefer to see it in context of an overall plan.
Unknown Position Do you support same-sex marriage?
I believe that this issue has already been decided by the Supreme Court. However, I believe that government documents should not include the word "marriage" as it is considered sacred by much of the population. I think it would be a better choice for government documents to use a secular term such as "life partnership" or "civil union" across the board creating legal equality with religious considerations being addressed. Each church can then choose to supplement (or not) with an additional certificate using whatever language it so chooses.
Yes Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
Unknown Position Do you support increased American intervention in Iraq and Syria beyond air support?
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?

Recent tragedies cause me to choose to currently maintain spending in Defense and Homeland Security. Otherwise we need to cut spending across the board until we get our debt under control. I support the thought process behind the Penny Plan (which is a 1% cut to almost everything: $0.01 out of every dollar the federal government spends) as a start. Regarding Welfare, although I recognize that society needs a safety net, is needs to be a temporary assist. It will have to be a gradual weaning process, but the current system needs to be eliminated in the long run.
1- Identify and begin remove unnecessary or outdated expenditures and legislation that cost taxpayer dollars. 2- Work toward a better, more reliable infrastructure for mass transit through federal funding and public/private partnerships, including continuing the expansion plans for Port Everglades. In keeping both people and goods moving at a competitive global level, businesses and individuals can continue to grow and profit.
