One of my biggest priorities is a progressive income tax. Illinois has a constitutionally mandated flat tax. Amending the constitution to allow for a progressive tax structure would cut taxes for over 90% of our residents while providing adequate funding for critical state programs. While civil unions represent a step in the right direction, we must continue the fight for true marriage equality. Same sex couples continue to lack fundamental equal rights. Smart criminal justice policies with a focus on rehabilitation are essential to reducing recidivism, which saves money and improves public safety. |
