Cutting Property Taxes - Property taxes in New York State are strangling our seniors, and driving away young people who wish to one day own a home. I have introduced a bill that would greatly reduce taxes on our most overburdened homeowners by instituting a 50% cap on their share of taxation. Veterans - Bolster New York's veterans benefits advising program. It is estimated that only 17% of New York's 700,000 Veterans are accessing their benefits. We must redouble our outreach efforts in the Veterans community to access the billions of dollars in federal benefits owed to our veterans.
Pass Senate bill 1388 which would cap school property taxes for homeowners at 50% of the total tax levy. This plan would establish a hard cap on the share of taxes homeowners can be asked to pay, while at the same time not reducing school budgets because any change in the local tax levy would be made up by additional state aid. This plan is revenue neutral, as it lowers the local levy by an amount equal to the additional state aid a school district would receive. This plan is essential to creating affordable housing across New York State.
