"More Americans today are losing faith in the two-party system. There is a growing distrust by the American people of both Democratic and Republican party leadership. There is good reason for this…."

I am running for Congress as a nonpartisan because I believe both parties have become so polarized that the need for other options is greater now than ever. Americans want leaders who will put country before party and who'll work to solve problems in a cooperative manner. I proudly voted as a Democrat all my life, however, I still proudly uphold some traditional principles and values. I believe most Americans are like this and cannot be boxed into one of two parties. I served as a U.S. Marine in combat, I know what an enemy is, and it is not a Democrat or Republican, it is individual greed and selfishness from certain career politicians who are given ungodly flows of shadow money from political super PACs and special interest groups with their own agendas.

I have family and friends in both parties, and in the past few years, I've seen great candidates refrain from running for office after party leaders either threatened to cut their funding, or bullied them into not running so that a more favorable party candidate could run and do their bidding. With no candidates reflecting my views as a constituent, choosing a candidate became "voting by default" since my only other option would be to not vote at all. Sadly, many Americans in recent years have simply stopped voting because they no longer believe either party represents their interests.

We need strength and strategic patience from both parties.

A politician doesn't exist to push their views, they exist to represent everyone in their constituency. Elected officials must be delegates of the people. Politicians cannot put their opinions above the citizens that elected them. As your nonpartisan congressman, I will always seek out the solution that is best in keeping with the general will, not just one particular interest group or political party.

Congress, let alone Nevada politics, is a mess. Instead of working together to solve challenges, politicians would rather fight each other with the goal of scoring political points for their parties instead of focusing on creating jobs or balancing the budget. As a kid, I learned quickly that complaining about problems will get you nowhere -- we have to work together. Our modern problems can't be blamed only on Republicans or Democrats -- we need more people in both parties committed to working together, rekindling our age old American spirit of compromise, consensus building, and finding real solutions.

Today, there is a growing nonpartisan movement in America. Citizens consider themselves politically independent before they think of themselves as Democrats or Republicans (Las Vegas Sun - Nevada's nonpartisan voters more plentiful, growing in importance). As a candidate in Nevada's 1st Congressional District, Nevada's most coveted district, I am running against an incumbent who is part of a powerful political machine. These "machines" are eroding our democracy, and working against the expansion of political participation.

We are in a new era in U.S. politics. Americans want and deserve something different, and nowhere is that reality more clearly seen than in the U.S. Congress where partisan cronyisms has become glaringly obvious. There can be no better way to resolve this issue than by electing a common-sense independent who can bring to Washington a nonpartisan approach that could break the gridlock crippling our system, and restore the faith of our citizens in their leaders.

As your congressman, I will represent you with an independent-nonpartisan voice. Being a nonpartisan allows me the freedom and peace of mind to openly work with Republicans and Democrats to create jobs, invest in education, and work towards moving our country forward with a plan that expands the middle class, properly regulates taxes, and protects Medicare, Social Security, and Veteran benefits. Working together in Washington, we can create solutions, not more problems.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:

The power of the people is declared in the first three words of the Constitution, "We the people …" This principle is the underlying basis for our Declaration of Independence.

Growing up, I was taught the principles of self-sacrifice and to always "do what's right." In a democracy, elected officials must represent the people of their districts, not a political party or special interests. Nevada's political leaders in Washington D.C. have gained a reputation for doing what's "right for their political party," and no longer what's right for their constituents. Every day, legislation is passed helping lobbyists, but not average Americans. There are way too many Nevada politicians who've run for office to represent themselves and special interests, but not the voters they were elected to represent. Nevadans deserve better. We need elected officials who are not beholden to political parties, but only to the people who elected them.

Why would politicians who lose in one district, quickly move into another, just to have a more favorable chance at winning the seat? Such politicians have turned a respected electoral system into a game of musical chairs. Do they want the job or the title? Are they there for the people or for themselves? Every year we hear the same rhetoric from both parties, parties that only care about their own interests. They select party loyalists as candidates, leaving us no other options to pick from. We Nevadans deserve real choices. My candidacy offers a new type of choice. This is why I am running as a nonpartisan candidate.

My plans are simple, I am running for Congress to advocate for and serve the people I represent, not a political party with its own agenda. Having been involved in civic service my entire life, I have long worked for positive change. The time has now come for us to make a difference. Let's bring fresh ideas, bold visions, new perspectives, and solid solutions to Washington. This is why I am running for Congress.
