Title: Baseball Stadium Tax

Vote to pass a bill that establishes a sports authority district in each county with a population between 300,000 and 2 million persons in order to attract Major League Baseball spring training operations to locations in the district or to retain Major League baseball spring training operations that are already located within the district.

Highlights:

-Requires the Board of Directors of the Sports Authority District (which consists of the members of the County Board of Supervisors) to call an election at which the voters of the county shall vote on whether or not to authorize the establishment of a sports authority that shall be allowed to levy taxes, collect taxes, and issue revenue bonds (Sec. 1). -Allows the sports authority district to levy taxes on restaurants, bars, amusements, sporting events, car rentals, hotels, motels, and retail, if the voters of the county approve (Sec. 1). -Allows the sports authority to issue bonds in order to use the proceeds for the purposes of acquiring, designing, developing, constructing, reconstructing, equipping, furnishing, maintaining, and improving stadiums and multipurpose facilities or directly related infrastructure, if the voters of the county approve (Sec. 1). -Requires the sports authority to spend at least 10 percent of its general revenues to promote youth sports and recreation (Sec. 1). -Specifies that the provisions of this bill establishing a sports authority district shall be repealed if a majority of voters reject the levy of taxes and issuance of bonds to achieve such establishment (Sec. 2).
