Vote to pass a bill that prohibits foods containing trans fats from being served or offered in public schools.
- Directs the State Board of Education to adopt rules prohibiting vegetable oils containing trans fats from being served in public school cafeterias beginning July 1, 2009 [sec. 5 (b)]. - Directs the State Board of Education to adopt rules prohibiting all foods containing trans fats from being served in public school cafeterias beginning July 1, 2010 [sec. 5 (b)]. - Requires there be a minimum of 0.5 grams per serving of trans fat for a food to be prohibited from being served in public school cafeterias [sec. 5 (a)]. - Relies on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's definition of "trans fat": any kind of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, including vegetable shortening or margarine [sec. 5 (a)].
