Title: Prohibiting Driver's Licenses for Undocumented Immigrants

Vote to pass a bill that would require applicants for a driver's or chauffer's license to prove that they are legal residents of the United States.

Highlights:

- Provides that applicants for a driver's or chauffer's license with any of the following may be issued a temporary license at the discretion of the Secretary of State, but shall not be issued a permanent license [sec. 310F (2)]: - a valid non-immigrant visa, - an approved application for asylum, - valid entry to the United States as a refugee, - a pending or approved application for Temporary Protected status, - Deferred Action status, - Pending application for Permanent Resident or Conditional Permanent Resident status. - Changes the application fee for an original license to not more than $35 for an operator's or minor's restricted license and not more than $45 for a chauffer's license [sec. 811 (1)]. - Changes the renewal fee for an operator's license to not more than $30 [sec. 811 (1)]. - Changes the fee for a duplicate license to not more than $15 for an operator's license and not more than $25 for a chauffer's license (sec. 812). - Substitute offered by the Senate Committee of the Whole on 02/05/2008.
