Title: Classifying Seventeen Year-Olds as Adults in Criminal Cases
Vote to adopt an article of the proposed state budget that requires that seventeen year-olds charged with a misdemeanor or felony be tried as adults.
- Reduces the maximum age at which the Family Court retains jurisdiction over wayward or delinquent youth from 21 years to 19 years, if the child came under the Courts jurisdiction before their 17th birthday (sec. 1). -Authorizes the Department of Children, Youth and Families to provide Higher Education Opportunity Incentive Grants to youth in the Department's custody on their eighteenth birthday (sec. 4).
