Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill intensifying preventive measures against corruption of public officials and providing more specific definitions for what qualifies as corruption.

Highlights:

-Clarifies definition of "benefit" as used in law concerning bribery to include campaign contributions that are given or received in exchange for agreement by a candidate or official to adopt a different position or pursue a different course of action while in office (Sec. 2). -Establishes an annual ethics training course for lobbyists and requires all lobbyists to attend and pass this course (Sec. 11, 12). -Requires that the involvement of a legislator or his immediate family in a government contract, such that said legislator or family serves to benefit from the contract, be published in house journals and made available to the public (Sec. 22). -Limits the gifts that a candidate or official is permitted to accept from lobbyists to food or drink to be consumed immediately and tickets to charity events (Sec. 27). -Requires candidates to report the source of all income over $1,000 received in a year and all gifts from one source exceeding $250 in total value along with a brief explanation of the nature of such income or gifts (previous limitations required reporting only income over $5,000) (Sec. 55). -Tightens the controls on trusts and firms managing a public official's private assets during his or her time in office to decrease the likelihood that said assets will be invested in a project on which said official has potential influence (Sec. 57).
