Vote to pass a bill that establishes a task force on specialty courts and to study certain issues concerning specialty courts in the state of Oregon.

Highlights:

  • Specifies the 19 members of the Task Force on Speciality Courts which must be appointed (Sec. 1). 

  • Defines the following issues concerning specialty courts (Sec. 1): 

    • Identity appropriate funding mechanisms; 

    • Determine the administrative funding balance between Oregon Criminal Justice Commission and the Judicial Department; 

    • Determine whether speciality courts currently use the right eligibility metrics; and

    • Identify the appropriate accountability mechanism to ensure their operating to the standards of the commission. 

  • Requires official action taken by the task for to be found in a majority approval of the members of the task force (Sec. 1). 

  • Establishes the task force must elect one member to serve as chairperson (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the chairperson to specify the meeting time and place (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires no later than November 15, 2024 that the task force submits a report on its findings and recommended legislation to the interim committee of the Legislative Assembly related to the judiciary (Sec. 1). 

  • Prohibits the members of the task force to receive compensation or reimbursement (Sec. 1). 

  • Establishes that this act will take effect upon its passage (Sec. 3).
