Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that prohibits individuals from receiving a concealed carry permit if they are on probation for a crime punishable for more than a year imprisonment, been involuntarily committed to a treatment facility for more than 30 days, or has a history of violence against another person, and increases penalties for illegal gun ownership to up to 5 years in prison.

Highlights:

• Establishes new penalties for the violation of an individual wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun (Sec. 1). 

• Requires the State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy to report on certain information yearly to the Governor and to the General Assembly (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Department of State Police to transmit a certain summary of laws regulating to certain persons in a certain manner (Sec. 1).  

• Requires the Secretary of State Police to help develop a certain curriculum in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General and the Maryland Department of Health (Sec. 1).
