Title: Limits Driving in the Left Lane

Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that limits driving in the far left lane, except under certain conditions.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits an individual from driving in the far left lane of any road with at least 2 lanes and a speed limit of at least 55 miles per hour, except under any of the following conditions (Sec. 2):
    • The driver is overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction;
    • The driver is preparing to turn left;
    • The driver is avoiding emergency conditions;
    • The driver is avoiding traffic merging into the right lane;
    • The driver is following traffic control devices; or
    • The driver is in slow-moving traffic.
  • Classifies the failure to keep a vehicle out of the far left lane under the provisions of this bill as a Class D traffic violation (Sec. 2).
  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill do not apply to an individual driving a camper, vehicle with a trailer, or vehicle that weighs more than 10,000 pounds (Sec. 2).
