Title: Requires Made in the United States Materials for Public Works
Vote to pass a bill that requires certain contracts to only be used for products made in the United States.
Requires that an entity under the Board of Education use only products manufactured in the United States, pursuant to the following (Secs. 1-4):
The manufactured product must be comprised of mostly iron or steel;
Most of its manufacturing took place within the United States; and
The total cost of mining, manufacturing or other production processes does not exceed 20% of the fair market value.
Authorizes the board to take the following actions against a contractor that knowingly uses or supplies procured products not manufactured in the United States (Secs. 1-4):
Suspend a contract for up to 3 years; and
Recover damages up to twice the cost of prosecution
Exempts the following products from the provisions in this bill (Secs. 1-4)
Components of or replacements to equipment or systems that were contracted prior to the date of a proposed waiver;
Pre-assembled products in the information-technology, computer science, or digital media industries that are imported from another country; or
Any satellite, cable television, or broadband communication services.
