Vote to pass a bill that removes biodiversity and restoration as forest management goals for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the Department of Natural Resources from enforcing a rule or order that designates an area of land specifically for the purpose of achieving or maintaining biological diversity (Sec. 504).

• Defines “conservation of biological diversity” as measures for maintaining, managing, or enhancing biological diversity while ensuring accessibility, productivity, and use of the natural resources for present and future generations (Sec. 35101).

• Repeals the legislative finding that “most losses of biological diversity are unintended consequences of human activity” (Sec. 35502).

• Repeals the conservation of biological diversity as a forest management goal for the Department of Natural Resources (Sec. 52502).

• Requires the Department of Natural Resources to balance economic values with conservation of plants and animals while managing wildlife habitats (Sec. 35503).
