Title: Prohibits Discrimination Based on Gender Identity or Expression
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or expression.
- Prohibits discrimination based on the gender identity or expression of an individual in the following circumstances (Secs. 2, 14, 17 & 18):
- When an individual obtains employment;
- When an individual obtains education;
- When an individual applies for credit;
- When an individual uses public accommodations; and
- When an individual uses or occupies housing or commercial space.
- Defines “gender identity or expression” as having or being perceived as having gender identity, self-image, appearance, behavior, or expression whether or not that gender identity, self-image, appearance, behavior or expression is different from that traditionally associated with the sex assigned to that person at birth (Secs. 3, 20 & 23).
- Specifies that a “hate crime” includes an intentional offense against an individual in whole or in part because of a belief or perception regarding the individual’s gender identity or expression (Secs. 20 & 24).
