U.S. Congressman Mike Pence voted today for the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act (H.R. 2433), which would provide educational opportunities for unemployed veterans. It passed the House 418-6.

"We owe our nations' veterans a debt of gratitude that we can never repay," said Pence. "With a heartbreaking one million veterans unemployed, we must do more to help them find work. I believe that if you owe debts, pay debts. We owe it to those who have risked their lives in defense of freedom to support them as they make the transition from the service to the civilian workforce. I am proud to support this important veterans employment legislation."

Background on H.R. 2433

-Enables 100,000 unemployed veterans of past eras to receive up to one year of Montgomery GI Bill benefits. This opportunity will allow veterans to acquire the skills to find employment in today's job market.

-Enhances the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) to ensure its effectiveness and requires an ongoing review of the program to strengthen it for the future.

-Strengthens the protections provided by the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act for our National Guard and Reserve, ensuring that our nations' heroes can return to their jobs after military service.
