Washington, D.C. -- Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement on President Biden's remarks on Afghanistan:

"As President Biden laid out clearly, the number one priority now is safely evacuating Americans, our allies and partners, and the brave Afghans that have worked alongside our country and who are in immediate danger. I've been on the phone with the White House and other senior administration officials to ensure the United States is doing everything we can to get these people out quickly and safely. Our nation is proud of the U.S. service members and embassy officials in Kabul who are working tirelessly to evacuate Americans and Afghans.

"America is grateful to all the brave service members, diplomats, and NGO workers who have served and sacrificed in Afghanistan. President Biden is right to bring our 20-year military involvement to an end."
