Donnelly Pleased with International Trade Commission Ruling for U.S., Indiana Tire Industries

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly today applauded the International Trade Commission's (ITC) final determination to assess duties on unfairly traded imports of Chinese tires that materially injure the domestic tire industry. In June, Donnelly sent a letter to the ITC urging them to uphold the recent U.S. Department of Commerce ruling to levy additional duties on unfairly traded imports of passenger vehicle and light truck tires from China. Applying antidumping and countervailing duties against such imports will support Indiana's tire industry, which has been hurt by the high influx of Chinese-made tires in recent years.

Donnelly said, "I am pleased with the International Trade Commission's ruling because it treats Indiana's and our country's tire industries fairly. As I have said before, Hoosier workers do not ask for hand-outs or for any special treatment. The products they make cannot fairly compete when others refuse to play by the agreed-upon rules, so this ruling is a victory. When we hold accountable foreign companies and countries that cut corners, we protect jobs and promote economic growth, which benefits consumers who want quality products. I will continue to work with Hoosiers and my colleagues in Congress to protect American jobs from unfair trade practices."

Donnelly has continuously voiced support for Hoosier workers and the domestic tire industry. In September, Donnelly joined 30 Senators in a letter to Commerce Secretary Pritzker to emphasize the importance of this case before the ITC and the harmful impact on the American tire industry.
