Congressman John Fleming, M.D., released the below statement following the Senate's recent confirmation of General Robin Rand as the first four-star general of Air Force Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force Base. General Rand has commanded at all levels of the Air Force and his experience has intersected across all aspects of the nuclear arena.

"I am pleased the Senate confirmed General Robin Rand as Barksdale's new Commander. His appointment demonstrates that the Air Force is serious about refocusing its attention on our nation's nuclear arsenal and bomber fleet, after years of neglect. I look forward to his strong leadership and working together to ensure our nation's most critical mission, the nuclear enterprise, remains a top priority through adequate resources and staffing. "

Raising the stature of Global Strike to a four-star command will provide Barksdale a stronger voice at the table in advocating for the mission, resources, and the airmen at our base. The additional leverage that a four-star command provides will align more Air Force functions under Global Strike, bringing more Air Force personnel and ultimately more economic growth to the Shreveport-Bossier region.

The Defense Department announced General Robin Rand's nomination in February.
