Rangel Applauds Removal of Confederate Flag from South Carolina Statehouse

Statement

Date: July 10, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles B. Rangel, who represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, released the following statement for the removal of the Confederate Flag from the South Carolina Statehouse:

"I am pleased to see that the Confederate Flag no longer flies over the Capitol of South Carolina. To so many people, that Flag does not represent the patriotism of the Confederate soldiers, but hatred and suppression. It was the right thing to do to remove the pain from those who are fighting hard for equality and justice for everyone in this country. Let us move our nation forward to make it a place free from all discrimination and prejudice.

America is the most wonderful country where people immigrate from all over the world in search of a better future. We still have some work to do to achieve equality and justice for all. I am confident that we will keep making progress in that goal, as we have time again through our nation's history."
