Statement

Date: April 14, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the White House indicated the President would be open to signing an agreement mandating congressional review and approval of a proposed nuclear deal with Iran.

This afternoon, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved legislation on a vote of 19-0 that would allow for congressional review of this deal.

Boustany said: "It is imperative Congress has its say on a deal with far-reaching and historic implications like the current negotiations with Iran. The Administration's eagerness to cut a deal has cast serious doubt on whether we have pursued all possible avenues, using every available tool in our toolbox to get the best possible deal.

"Protecting the safety of American families is my most solemn duty as your elected Representative. I won't support a deal that doesn't go far enough to protect American lives and interests, and I won't support a deal that doesn't do enough to protect our friend and ally, Israel."
