Congressman Lowenthal Statement on Passage of Short-term Transportation Funding Bill

"I am disappointed that we are dealing with transportation funding the same way we have been dealing with our crumbling infrastructure--yet another temporary patch.

"I am disappointed that once again Americans are being asked to accept short-term political expediency over long-term financial planning.

"And, I am disappointed that we are not really dealing with finding a sustainable funding source for our national freight infrastructure, the literal backbone of our national economy.

"This is not the way to do the business of the people. These short-term solutions are keeping public agencies across the nation from being able to plan and invest.

"However, we cannot let the money run out. I was compelled to vote for this terrible solution because doing nothing was even more unimaginable."
