The U.S. House of Representatives has approved Rep. Rick Nolan's plan to add a million dollars to cancer research.
The proposal is personal for Nolan since his daughter, Katherine, is battling non-smoking lung cancer. Nolan said researchers are close to discovering a cure.
"It's my hope that with this amendment, we can do a little bit better," he said. "Get us a little bit closer to that cure, and give people going forward the same hope that my daughter Katherine has been able to receive as a result of these prayers and this research."
Before the successful vote, Nolan thanked his colleagues for their prayers and concern about his daughter.
