Lujan Grisham Announces $4.6 Million in Health Care Grants

Press Release

Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today that $4.6 million in health-related grants were issued to First Choice Community Healthcare, Inc. and Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

First Choice Community Healthcare, Inc. will use the federal grant money to help cover the cost of providing care to uninsured and under-insured community members. First Choice discounts office visit fees according to family size and income so that all people can receive preventative and primary health care, regardless of income. First Choice operates eight primary care centers in communities of high need within three counties and serves nearly 50,000 patients annually.

Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless operates as a stand-alone clinic in the center of downtown that is dedicated to providing primary medical, dental and behavioral health care. They serve 7,000 individuals annually at no charge, and 100% of them are homeless. The federal grant money will be used to fulfill their day-to-day operations.

"These funds are essential so that these exceptional organizations can continue to provide basic health care services to our most vulnerable residents," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "Access to quality healthcare should be available to everyone and the number of patients they serve makes a vast difference in the overall health of our community."
