Press Release

Date: June 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, the House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation, cosponsored by Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, to repeal the 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device innovation.

"The medical device industry is a model of innovation, developing groundbreaking medical care and creating good-paying jobs for Arizona families," said Congresswoman Sinema. "This burdensome tax hurts industry growth and prevents companies from investing in research and development. Repealing the medical device tax is a commonsense, bipartisan solution that encourages innovation, provides patient access to life-saving medical technology, and spurs job growth in Arizona and across the country."

There are approximately 4,500 medical technology jobs in Arizona, generating over $285 million in wages and nearly $1.5 billion in technology sales.
