John Kline Statement on TPA

Press Release

Date: June 12, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Minnesota Congressman John Kline issued the following statement today after voting for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that mandates any potential agreement be publicly available for 60 days before Congress can vote on it:

"This legislation puts Congress in the driver's seat as the constitution intended. I was pleased to support TPA because it requires a more open and transparent process for any potential trade agreement by bolstering Congress' constitutional authority and our final say in approving U.S. trade with other countries. There is still more to be done to complete this process, and I am hopeful Congress can come together in a bipartisan way as soon as next week to finish our work and get this important bill signed into law to grow jobs in America."

Note: Last month, Kline visited northern Europe to exchange ideas on ways to improve education and workforce competitiveness. In meetings with Norwegian Parliament, the Swedish government and business and labor sectors, and Estonia officials, all expressed the importance of advancing free and fair trade agreements as a way to boost economic growth and job creation by providing greater access to free and fair trade.
