Congresswoman Jenkins Discusses King v. Burwell At GOP Leadership Press Conference

Statement

Date: June 24, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, at the weekly press conference with Republican leaders, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) discussed the upcoming Supreme Court decision on the President's healthcare law and the House Republican plan to provide peace of mind to American families who could potentially be impacted by the decision.

The following are Congresswoman Jenkins' remarks:

"Back in 2012, I questioned then-Secretary Sebelius about the concerns with the very issue at hand in the upcoming decision on the President's healthcare law. We did not see anything in the law at the time that would allow federal subsidies to flow through a Federally-Facilitated Marketplace.

"Unfortunately, despite their promises, the Administration ignored our concerns and three years later thousands of Kansans and millions of Americans are at risk of losing their healthcare subsidies.

"Now, if the Supreme Court rules that the President's healthcare law did not authorize federal subsidies for policy holders not participating in state exchanges, House Republicans are prepared with a plan to ensure families who have been relying on the subsidies are held harmless.

"Our plan will protect families as we transition away from this broken healthcare system to put patients in charge, not the government."
