Connecting Camden Kids To The World

Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today applauded an initiative to expand high speed Internet to deserving students in The City of Camden.

The pilot program, ConnectHome, is a private-public partnership that will connect broadband service to 27 U.S. cities including Camden.

The program is part of President Obama's ConnectED initiative to connect 99% of K-12 students to high speed Internet in their classrooms and libraries over the next five years.

ConnectHome takes it a step further. The program is designed to ensure students still have access to high-speed Internet once they are home at affordable rates, along with
computer training and technical support.

"Learning never stops. Even after the school day ends, this program will enable Camden students to continue studying and exploring the world at the next level, in their own homes with high speed Internet access," said Rep. Norcross.

In May, Rep. Norcross accompanied President Obama to Camden where the President held up Camden residents "as a symbol of promise for the nation."

As part of ongoing efforts to help Camden's transformation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in late April named Camden a "Promise Zone," which enables cities to get an edge competing for federal funds for vital programs including education.
