Huelskamp's Efforts Pay Off on De-Listing the Lesser Prairie Chicken

Press Release

Date: May 14, 2015

For the last three years, Congressman Tim Huelskamp has been working against the listing of the Lesser Prairie Chicken (LPC) under the Endangered Species Act. And those efforts are coming to the House floor tonight with consideration of an amendment to roll back the listing. The March 2014 listing of the LPC by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) was devoid of public, sound science and has been a huge detriment to western Kansas -- indeed the entire region. Farmers, ranchers, oil and gas companies, transmission companies, power generators, realtors and nearly every rural industry has been harmed by the uncertainty and costly requirements of this listing.

In response to the impending floor debate on the amendment, Huelskamp issued the following statement:

"I thank Congressman Pete Sessions and others for allowing us to debate this listing on the floor of the U.S. House. After three years of pushing back against this dangerous listing, I am proud that our efforts are paying off. It is time to put our farm families and small businesses of rural Kansas above the ill-conceived Washington D.C. listing of the Lesser Prairie Chicken."
