House Committee Adopts Two Key Huelskamp VA Proposals

Press Release

Date: July 15, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today the House Veterans Affairs Committee voted to pass the Congressman Huelskamp (KS-01)-sponsored VA Accountability Act of 2015, including Huelskamp's Whistleblowing Testimony Travel Act as an amendment to the bill. The VA Accountability Act would provide additional responsibility and authority for the VA Secretary to fire any VA bureaucrat who is harming or failing our Veterans. Huelskamp's whistleblower legislation would protect brave VA employees who testify to Congress about the truth of the VA's culture of corruption and unaccountability.

On the passage of these two proposals by the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Congressman Huelskamp gave the following statement:

"My VA Accountability Act would provide the VA Secretary the authority and responsibility to fire corrupt or incompetent employees for cause and hold them accountable for their actions. And with my bipartisan amendment, the Act will also protect brave VA whistleblowers who testify to Congress from being punished by losing personal benefits like vacation time or paying out-of-pocket travel expenses. I'm grateful that committee members on both sides of the aisle supported my whistleblower language, because of our deep gratitude for those men and women who continue to put the Veterans before their personal gain."
