Statement on Army's Announcement of Force Reductions

Statement

Date: July 13, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., gave the following statement in response to the U.S. Army's announcement of force reductions over the next two years:

"When sequestration took effect two years ago, I called it a reckless approach to budgeting -- one that applied drastic cuts without thought or strategy. We see the latest proof of that in the recent news of a 40,000-troop reduction, including the loss of 114 active-duty personnel at Arizona's Fort Huachuca, despite mounting global threats and demands on our military. These jobs matter not only to our local communities but to our national defense. I continue to urge Congress to work together and find a solution that will stop the sequester. Otherwise, these cuts -- and their damage -- will persist not only for our military but our local economies, schools, national parks and Native American tribes."
