U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar visited Red Wing on Friday to tour the area along with the mayor, council members, Minnesota Department of Transportation staff and others. Klobuchar said the bus tour visited area sites including the future bridge replacement project over the Mississippi River and work along the riverfront known as the River Renaissance.
Klobuchar, head of the tourism caucus in the Senate, said the plans to improve the riverfront are exciting. "I just think that is really promising for Red Wing" she said in a phone interview.
The group also discussed the Sturgeon Lake Road overpass project, which includes a request for federal funding.
"It was all in all a really good meeting to get updated," Klobuchar said. She also planned to visit other cities along the river and in the area, including Wabasha and Winona.
