St. Francis Dam Disaster Remembrance and Tour
The St. Francis Dam Disaster is one of the greatest tragedies our area has ever seen, which is why I am supporting an effort to create a National Memorial site to commemorate the incident and the people who were harmed. Last week I took a tour of the proposed site with Dianne Erskine-Hellrigel, Executive Director of the Community Hiking Club.

Quartz Hill Chamber Board Installation
I had the honor of presiding over the Swearing-In Ceremony at the Quartz Hill Chamber Installation last week. Best of luck to incoming President Chris Perosi, (Owner of The Tech Gods) and thank you to outgoing President Doug Cain, (Vice-President of the Antelope Ambulance Service) for your service.

Fourth of July Celebrations
The Fourth of July is always one my favorite days of the year, so I try to make it out to as many of the excellent local celebrations as possible. This year, I served at the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club 4th of July Pancake Breakfast, rode in the Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade, and watched fireworks at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. God Bless America!

Cutting the Ribbon in Santa Clarita
We hosted a fun and successful ribbon cutting at my Santa Clarita District Office last Thursday, adding to existing offices in the Antelope and Simi Valleys. If you need help with a federal agency or would like to voice an opinion about a national issue, give us a call at the new office- (661) 255-5630.

Around the Capitol
Tough Questions
In Thursday's Science, Space, & Technology Committee hearing I had some questions for the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator about how the agency's over regulation inhibits growth and recovery in California.

Veterans ID Card
I am very excited that this week the House passed H.R. 91, the Veteran's Identification Card Act of 2015, and it is on its way to becoming a law. This will allow veterans who aren't enrolled in VA healthcare to obtain I.D. cards that will serve as proof that he or she has a discharge (DD-214) form - saving time, money and frustration when trying to prove one's military service.

Tele-Town Hall with the Santa Clarita Valley
On July 8, I hosted a Tele-Town Hall with families in the Santa Clarita Valley. I discussed a broad range of important topics with members of the community, like CEMEX, the drought crisis, and veteran's issues. Thank you to everyone who participated, I love hearing from members of the community. Stay tuned for the next one!

21st Century Cures
Members of our community have suffered for too long from diseases with no known cures, from Cystic Fibrosis to cancer to Valley Fever, and this is unacceptable. That is why I am cosponsor of H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, which passed the House on Friday. The bill would accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of new treatments for these and the thousands of other diseases with no known cure. It would also modernize clinical trials to bring new drugs and devices to the market, remove regulatory uncertainty in the development of new medical applications, and break down barriers to increase research collaboration. The bill now awaits consideration in the Senate.
