Bill Johnson Votes to Repeal Medical Device Tax

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 160, the Protect Medical Innovation Act:

"The House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation that would repeal one of the most onerous parts of ObamaCare, the widely unpopular medical device tax. The American health care industry is responsible for wonderful innovations, but is being stifled by unnecessary and costly taxes, such as the medical device tax.

The medical device tax is just one of more than 20 different taxes on the American people embedded in ObamaCare, and it is one of the most destructive in that it takes away resources from pioneering research, development of life-saving treatments, and raises the cost of medical care. Imposing a tax on medical technology in an effort to bring down health care costs as part of the original health care reform bill is an idea that would only come out of Washington D.C.

I am hopeful the House will continue to pursue even more solutions that put patients -- not bureaucrats -- in charge of their own health care decisions. This was important legislation I was glad to support, and I call on the Senate to swiftly join in this effort, and send this legislation to the President's desk."
