Rep. Curbelo on Veterans I.D. Card Act

Today, the House Concurred in the Senate Amendment to H.R. 91, the Veterans I.D. Card Act. Rep. Curbelo (FL-26), a cosponsor of the bill, issued the following statement in support of its passage.

"Under current law, the Department of Veterans Affairs only offers I.D. cards to members of the military who have served at least 20 years or are in need of medical care based on service-related disabilities. The passage of the Veterans I.D. Act signifies a shift in progress to improve the lives of our veterans. H.R. 91 would require the VA to issue proper identification to veterans who request a card, present a copy of authorized documentation noting their service, and pay a nominal card fee.

On a recent trip to Monroe County, I had the opportunity to speak with Veterans at a VFW meeting in Key West. After listening to their stories and their difficulties in navigating the cumbersome VA, I know vets will greatly benefit from this piece of legislation. I am proud to be a co-sponsor of H.R. 91, and applaud Rep. Buchanan (FL-16) for his leadership in introducing this essential bill that should quickly be signed into law."

The House concurred in the Senate amendment to H.R. 91 on July 7, 2015 by a vote of 411-0. The bill will now be sent to President Obama for his signature into law.
