Congress Passes Women's Caucus Priorities to Provide Justice for Victims of Trafficking

Press Release

Date: May 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

With the support of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act passed the House today with overwhelming support of 420-3. The legislation creates a Domestic Trafficking Victims' Fund using fines collected on traffickers to pay for survivor services and law enforcement assistance. Passed unanimously by the Senate in April, this bill will now be sent to the President to sign into law.

"Human trafficking is modern day slavery and has no place in a civilized world, yet it remains a pervasive evil in part because it is big business -- including in South Florida. This bipartisan bill will make sure justice is better served, enforcing harsh penalties on traffickers to provide support to help victims get their lives back."

Frankel is Vice Chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, whose bipartisan Human Trafficking Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery Act will be part of the new law. Their provision allows grants for housing, promotes best practices, and coordinates services.
