Today, Congressman Mark Takai (HI-01) released the following statement after President Obama announced that he would support the entirety of the recommendations made by the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission:

"When the Commission first announced their recommendations, I sought out veterans and other stakeholders in the community to get their input on the matter. The feedback and concerns we received was then presented to the President, prior to him making a recommendation," Takai said.

"Obviously, there are a multitude of individuals and organizations that have concerns with these proposals, and I will continue working to make sure my constituents' views are reflected in any final changes through my work on the House Armed Services Committee," Takai concluded.

Rep. Takai held field hearings on the proposals of the Commission on February 21, 2015 and March 13, 2015. Veterans Service Organizations, Active Military Components and other community stakeholders gave testimony on the recommendations and proposed changes.

President Obama announced in a speech given at Fort Drum, NY, that he would be endorsing the recommendations of the Commission. A formal legislative proposal is expected at the end of April.
