Roger Williams Statement on Jobs Report

Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), a small business owner and member of the House Financial Services Committee, today made the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor released its monthly employment report:
"While the Obama Administration is quick to pat itself on the back for citing numbers that work in their favor we must remember there are hardworking Americans who are struggling to make ends meet and millions more who are relying on the government as their only source of income. No matter how this president wants to spin it, the fact is that the labor force participation rate is the lowest since 1977, and there are nearly one hundred million Americans age 16 and over who are not working. This is unacceptable. Rather than raise wages from the White House and pass blame, this president should focus his attention on providing Americans with the resources they need to succeed and incentivize business owners to hire again."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics' U-6 measurement, which includes individuals who are unemployed, looking for work and underemployed for economic reasons, was 10.5 percent for the month of June. The unemployment rate was announced at 5.3 percent.

Last month, Williams introduced Jumpstart America, a business perspective on tax reform aimed to bolster small business growth.
