Hastings' Statement on LGBT Pride Month

Press Release

Date: June 1, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement in recognition of LGBT Pride Month:

"Each June, we celebrate LGBT Pride Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the remarkable progress made toward achieving equality for all, while also reflecting on the work that remains.

"It is fitting that this LGBT Pride Month, the Supreme Court is also expected to issue a ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, a case that could determine whether same-sex couples across the country may legally marry. It is my deepest hope that the Court will extend the right to marry to all individuals who desire to express their love and commitment to one another in this way.

"True democratic prosperity can be achieved only through the enhancement of an inclusive environment in which all citizens of our country are given full access to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We must continue to support all efforts to end bigotry and prejudice towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Americans to ensure a brighter future for all of our fellow citizens."
