Proclamation - Missing Children's Day

Date: May 25, 2005

Governor's Proclamation

WHEREAS, our children are our greatest treasure and we must do
everything possible to keep them safe and free from harm
as they grow; and

WHEREAS, each day, families across America experience grief and
anxiety as a result of the disappearance of a child; and

WHEREAS, the Palmetto State has more than 25 missing children,
including runaways, victims of family and stranger
abductions, and those who have simply disappeared, who
have been gone from a matter of weeks to nearly 20
years; and

WHEREAS, regardless of the circumstances surrounding their
disappearance, all missing children are endangered, needing
our cooperation and attention to Amber Alerts, photographs,
and other notifications in an effort to reunite them with their
families.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mark Sanford, Governor of the Great State of
South Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 25, 2005, as

MISSING CHILDREN'S DAY

throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to work together
to raise awareness of missing children, the dangers they face, and the
loved ones who await their safe return.
