Ribble on Iran Nuclear Negotiation Deadline

Statement

Date: June 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) released the below statement following the official deadline for final details of nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran:

"After months of failed talks, Iran's rope-a-dope approach appears to continue to be in play, as the world continues waiting to see this Administration potentially reward a state sponsor of terrorism for delaying--not dismantling--their nuclear program.

It is unacceptable to allow Iran to move forward in the creation of a nuclear bomb, now or ten years in the future. Unfortunately, we have yet to see any indicator that this won't be the case. The U.S. Administration continues stalling while Iranian authorities release increasingly ludicrous lists of demands and conditions.

I believe it's time for the Administration to take a pause from negotiations and seek to redouble sanctions on Iran for its continued intransigence. The economic impact of sanctions brought Iran to the negotiating table, and it appears that it may be time to let the sanctions continue until Iran is prepared to genuinely cease its nuclear ambitions. Our Administration must negotiate terms that will make America and the world more secure, not end the successful leverage that has brought us to this point. I will be following developments in a potential deal very closely and working with my colleagues to take the next steps in ensuring that America does not pave the way for Iran to have a nuclear bomb."

A member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade, Congressman Ribble has been following the Iran nuclear negotiations closely and was a signatory on a recent bipartisan letter to President Obama underscoring the grave threats Iran presents. He has insisted on a deal that would truly ensure that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons, and will not support anything less.
